About HGU
We at the Department of Vegetable Crops at Hochschule Geisenheim University are pleased to support the organic cultivation of vegetables with our scientific capacities!
The further development of organic farming is something we see as having a future, both in research and in practice! The interdisciplinary approach of combining expertise from plant and soil sciences with water-related issues is exactly the right challenge for our vegetable farming project group.
In essence, this means
– Extending the field of application of the Geisenheim Irrigation Scheduling to organic farming.
– To record and analyse the effect of irrigation measures on soil moisture in the root zone and the infiltration performance of the soil.
– To determine the water-use efficiency of vegetable production.
– To assess organic fertilisers in terms of their carbon sequestration and fertilising effect.
The Farmers-led Research Network offers a platform for a stimulating exchange and creative realisation of the research project. We are looking forward to the next results and emerging research questions!
I am part of the PFN because we want to contribute with our research to increasing the resilience and sustainability of open field vegetable production in Hesse.
I am part of the PFN because, as a horticultural engineer, I find the close exchange and knowledge transfer between research and practice in vegetable farming extremely important.
