About the farm
Hof Capelle is run by the Arndt family. The farm has one employee.
Hof Capelle has a historical background: the confessor of Elisabeth of Thuringia had his chapel at this location in the Ebsdorfergrund near Marburg.
The farm cultivates 178 ha of arable land and 40 ha of grassland, since 2018 according to Naturland guidelines. The livestock consists of 47 fattening and livery cattle.
The farmland is located in the Amöneburger Becken, which means that it ranges from sandy loam with bunter sandstone in the subsoil to loamy clay soils on basalt and alluvial soils with loess overlays. In the crop rotation, we grow a grass and clover mixture, field beans, maize, spelt, oats, wheat, rye, spring barley, a vetch and rye mixture and tall wheatgrass. What is not needed for fodder or energy production is marketed through the Naturland-Marktgesellschaft. In cooperation with two organic farms, a biogas plant is operated in Heskem/Mölln, generating electricity and heat for a school, a swimming pool, the village of Mölln and a drying plant for split logs.
Of course, the farm also stands for health, sustainability, local production, diversity and the idea of the closed loop production system.
I am part of the PFN because I like to try out new ideas on my farm in order to implement nature-oriented land management.
