24.06.2025 | EVENT
On June 24, 2025, the Landesbetrieb Landwirtschaft Hessen (LLH) invited participants to visit the organic landrace trials at Domäne Frankenhausen. Around 15 participants – including farmers from the region, employees of the domain and students – accepted the invitation to the two-hour field tour.
The focus was on the variety trials for winter wheat, winter triticale, field beans and white lupin. Reinhard Schmidt from the LLH presented the different varieties and shared his assessment of their suitability for cultivation and special characteristics – complemented by discussions on arable measures on the fields.
The tour also included an insight into the “Umkreis” project, which is part of the Farmers Led Research Network Hesse (PFN). The experimental setup and the extended sampling program on the domain were presented. The current results of the leachate and gas measurements were of particular interest. In addition, farmer Thomas Kloppmann reported on his experiences with the Treffler Häufler prototype. The long-term ecological trial (OeLaV) on the domain was also briefly presented – a scientifically supported project for the long-term comparison of ecological management strategies.
