Solidarische Landwirtschaft Feldkultur in Schabsburg is run entirely by its members and supplies 100 households with organic vegetables all year round. The farm is located in the Rheinhessen wine-growing region south of Mainz, where the climate is characterized by hot, dry and long summers. The cultivation is mainly done by hand on permanent beds. Regenerative, soil-building practices have played a major role right from the start: From relay cropping to mulching, green manures and under- or top-dressing. Our focus is on the link between the soil microbiome and plant health, as well as on improving the water-holding capacity of the landscape. Next year, an agroforestry system will be integrated into the nursery to naturally improve the photosynthetic performance, water infiltration and microclimate of the area and generate biomass to feed the soil life.

We are part of the PFN because research with companies and not just for companies is important to us. Gardeners experience the changes caused by the climate crisis first-hand every day, and it is important to scientifically support our observations and proposed solutions in order to raise local experience to a level that can be transferred nationwide.
