PFN at the organic compost cluster meeting and advisory training course

This was the first time that the NÖK Hesse organised a two-day practical workshop for and with representatives from the compost sector, organic farming and advisors from LLH, Bioland and Naturland. The workshop took place in Marburg with around 40 participants.

On the first day of the event, a practical workshop was held on requirements of and dialogue between expert groups and the design of demo clusters. A lot of knowledge was shared, heated discussions took place, many questions were answered and new contacts were established, especially between composting plant operators and farmers.

During a trip to the Marburger Entsorgungs-GmbH Cyriax plant in Marburg, the plant could be visited together and all questions about the fermentation and composting of organic waste and green waste compost in organic quality could be clarified on site.

This was followed on the next day by a seminar for advisors on the topic of compost in organic farming, which covered the basics of composting/fermentation and quality control of composts as well as compost application against the background of the German Düngeverordnung (fertiliser regulation) and the value and prices of composts.

The event served to establish sustainable network structures between and within the expert groups in order to expand the utilisation of suitable, quality-assured organic and green waste composts in organic farming in Hesse with the aim of improving nutrient cycles, soil fertility, humus formation and the impact on the climate.
