PFN in exchange with Demeter farmers
26.02.2026 | EVENT
2025 was the third hottest year since weather records began. What sounds like a statistic to us, is reality to many farmers as they are experiencing drought on their fields regularly. This raises the urgent question: how can they adapt to climate change – and thus continue to run their farms profitably?
In our completed“Ökoboden4Resilienz“ project, we researched precisely this question together with three organic vegetable farms, the Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences and the Hessen State Agricultural Agency (LLH). We were interested in whether and how the use of composts in combination with winter catch crops can improve water availability. We collected the data from 2022 to 2025 and the results are now available.
And because it is important to us that we share our results not only with farmers within our network, but also beyond, we were all the more pleased to be invited by the Demeter Regional Group South. The meeting offered us an excellent opportunity to present our results and to talk to the farmers about their own experiences with drought on their farmland. Anyone interested in the results of our “Ökoboden4Resilienz” project can find them here (article “Vegetables”) and here (poster on the results) for more information.
